GTA to Back Approved December Events with Funding, Logistics and Security Support

Abeiku Santana, the Deputy CEO in charge of Marketing and Special Duties at the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has explained the kind of support the Authority gives to event organizers during the December festivities.

Speaking in an interview with Giovani Caleb on Showbiz 360, Mr. Santana said that in June this year, the Ghana Tourism Authority invited event organizers who planned to host programs in December to submit their proposals. He explained that this is something the Authority does every year.

According to him, event organizers were asked to send in their ideas and plans. A special team then reviewed all the proposals, and those that met the required standards were selected and officially endorsed. He noted that any event approved by the Ghana Tourism Authority carries the GTA logo to show that it has been endorsed.

Mr. Santana added that the Authority does more than just endorse events. The GTA also supports organizers in different ways, including publicity, financial help, and logistics. In some cases, they help with visa-on-arrival arrangements and also assist with coordination between event organizers and security agencies like the Ghana Police Service and other government institutions.

He explained that most of the major events held during December receive approval from the Ghana Tourism Authority. He encouraged event organizers to seek endorsement from the Authority, especially if they need support, whether financial, logistical, or otherwise.

Mr. Santana also spoke about a Legislative Instrument introduced in 2019, which makes the Ghana Tourism Authority the main government body responsible for regulating activities in areas such as entertainment, hospitality, and accommodation. He said many people are not aware of this law because it is relatively new and was followed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which slowed down public education.

He clarified that while organizing an event without GTA approval is not a criminal offense, organizers can be cautioned. However, he stressed that to enjoy any form of support or endorsement from the Authority, event organizers must meet certain requirements and follow the laid-down procedures.
