Entertainment journalist Edem Tsotorme recently engaged award-winning rapper Sarkodie, a key stakeholder of December in GH, on how the initiative can be strengthened and sustained for the future.
In his response, Sarkodie emphasized the need for intentional planning while preserving the organic nature that made December in GH successful in the first place.
“We have to be very deliberate about sustaining it,” he said. “It started organically, and that’s actually the best form of PR. When something grows naturally, people connect with it more. But once it takes off, you need a system in place to regulate and maintain it, so it keeps happening consistently.”
Drawing from his own experience, Sarkodie referenced his annual Rapperholic concert as an example of how structure helps longevity.
“Rapperholic also started organically as an album launch. But to keep it running successfully for 13 to 14 years, we had to put strong structures in place. That’s where government and all stakeholders come in to ensure December in GH continues to thrive for many years to come,” he explained.
Sarkodie also highlighted one of Ghana’s strongest advantages on the global stage, peace and safety.
“One thing Ghana has that many countries don’t is peace, and you can’t buy that. It’s something people experience. Visitors come to Ghana, travel to other places, and still choose Ghana because of how safe and welcoming it is,” he added.
