Ghanaian media personality, Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku, recently embarked on a daring solo hike up Ben Nevis in Scotland, the tallest mountain in the United Kingdom.
Sharing her journey, Naa revealed just how intense the challenge was. “It’s a 7 to 9-hour hike and I’m just starting,” she said early into her climb. What made the experience even more remarkable was that she did it entirely on her own, no guide, no group, just her and the mountain.
“It was really scary,” she admitted. “But I guess that’s exactly why I chose to do it solo.” As she climbed higher, she battled strong winds that pushed her back and the biting cold that chilled her to the bone. “At this point, I was sure I was going to get pneumonia,” she added with a touch of humor.
Despite being told she’d encounter other hikers along the trail, Naa found herself completely alone for much of the journey. “So far, there’s no one on the field. I was told I’d meet a lot of people and that I wouldn’t be alone. Well, I am alone,” she said. As light drizzle set in, she threw on her waterproof jacket and joked, “I’m questioning all my life choices that have brought me to this point.”
At one point, the thought of turning back crossed her mind but she pressed on, and she made it all the way to the summit of Ben Nevis.
Her courageous hike not only marks a personal achievement but also serves as an inspiring reminder of what’s possible when we challenge ourselves, even when the path is steep, cold, and lonely.
