Ras Mubarak has described the Trans Africa Tourism and Unity Campaign as a necessary and timely intervention, as the pan-African team returned to Accra after a gruelling road journey across 31 African countries, renewing calls for a visa-free continent by 2030.
The team arrived at the Black Star Square earlier yesterday, marking the end of a 40,000-kilometre journey that cut across different regions, cultures, time zones and experiences on the African continent.
Speaking on arrival, Ras Mubarak, leader of the campaign, expressed joy at returning home and reflected on the purpose of the ambitious journey.
“We are happy to be back home. We left Ghana on the 18th of August last year with one single aim, to travel across Africa, engage heads of government and policymakers, and make a passionate appeal for the continent to be visa-free by 2030,” he said.
According to him, the push for an accelerated timeline is closely linked to Africa’s development and future prosperity.
“Africa has a huge youthful population, and it is very important that we keep young people engaged through the creation of opportunities. This journey was about highlighting how integration, tourism and free movement can drive economic growth across the continent,” he explained.
Mubarak noted that the team drove more than 40,000 kilometres through 31 countries, navigating different time zones, spending various currencies and immersing themselves in the everyday lives of Africans along the way.
“We experienced Africa in its truest form, from the food we ate to the people we met. In Equatorial Guinea, eating python meat is normal, just as one can go to Kejetia or Makola Market to buy fish or goat meat. We ate crocodile meat in Kenya and sampled worms in Namibia,” he said.
He added that these experiences are a powerful reminder of Africa’s rich diversity and shared cultural heritage, underscoring the need for unity and easier movement across borders.
“This journey shows just how connected we already are as Africans. A visa-free Africa will only strengthen that bond,” Mubarak concluded.
